Policy Subcommittee:

Mission Statement:

The University of North Dakota places above all other considerations the safety and well being of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. It is the first duty of all employees to support lawful requirements and standard operating procedures regarding safety and provide a safe and healthy working environment.

The primary goal of the Loss Control Policy Subcommittee is to provide appropriate safety guidelines for students, faculty, staff and visitor by:

  1. Facilitating the development of workable safety policies and procedures in a standardized format, by incorporating the input of those persons responsible for their implementation and compliance.
  2. Reviewing existing safety policies and procedures, and revising as appropriate.
  3. Submitting new and revised drafts of safety policies and procedures to the full Loss Control Committee for review, acceptance and implementation.

Training Subcommittee

Mission Statement:

The University of North Dakota places a high importance on the safety and well-being of all student employees, faculty and staff. It is the duty of all employees to support the University's safety programs and strive to eliminate workplace hazards. This happens by ensuring that each employee receives the necessary training to preclude and protect against workplace hazards.

To meet this goal, the Training Subcommittee will:

  1. Submit proposed programs to the University's Loss Control Committee for approval and implementation.
  2. Ensure that the safety training programs remain effective and valid by developing a review process that maintains the programs validity.
  3. In addition, the committee will strive to facilitate the development and delivery of safety training programs that will:
    1. Include all of the OSHA training guidelines and/or requirements by type of position.
    2. Provide all new staff, student and facility employees with an orientation.
    3. Develop specialized safety training programs based on the needs of the audience.
    4. Meet the safety training goals contained in the University's Strategic Plan.
    5. Develop a system to document all of the various safety training that an employee receives while at the University.

Security Subcommittee

Mission Statement

The mission of the Security Subcommittee:

  • Review security needs relating to University personnel, students, and visitors.
  • Review security needs relating to University buildings and grounds, events, research, information, and operations.
  • Review and recommend policies regarding security, priorities and standards.
  • Provide guidelines to assist departments in monitoring adherence to policies and procedures designed to prevent breaches of security.
  • Monitor with new information regarding security materials from federal, state, local, and University regulations and disseminate as appropriate.
  • Review and recommend training regarding security policies and procedures.
  • Review incidents involving security breaches.
  • Make recommendations to the main committee.

Accident Review
Committee

Mission Statement:

The University of North Dakota places a high priority on the safety and well being of all persons who operate State Fleet motor vehicles.

The Motor Vehicle Accident Review Committee reviews all motor vehicle accidents/crashes involving State Fleet vehicles dispatched by the University of North Dakota Transportation Department.

Based on the findings of the committee, the accident/crashes will be determined either preventable or non-preventable. Accident/crashes specific recommendations and corrective actions are communicated to affected parties following the committee's review process. The committee also provides support and guidance relating to seat belt usage, training guidelines and other vehicle safety programs.

Through an effective review process, it is anticipated that motor vehicle accidents/crashes can be reduced at the University of North Dakota.
